OUR HISTORY
A story thats start long before 1991
Our business origins go back to 1987 in the company Talleres Longlife owned by Julio Arocena Noceti and José Pais Alvarez, when they made the first imports, taking advantage of a vacant market share portion available due to the decline and fall of the historic TRABUCATI S.A. (wholesaler company founded in 1840), where Julio Arocena worked for 40 years.
A few years later, in 1991, as business opportunities seemed very promising, they decided to start a new company, with a new partner, Enrique Larraechea Garcia, and OROFINO S.A. was founded.
At the same time, Javier Arocena and Enrique Larraechea, their sons, joined them working in diverse areas of the company throughout the years, and manage the company actually. That process gave the company a family management profile. In 1994 José Pais became ill and decided to leave the company, dying shortly after.
The new wholesaler company was named “INTRODUCTORA SLENDER”, as “SLENDER” was the name by which, at that time, many customers identified the company. “Slender” is our own brand shared with Talleres Longlife.
The first years, administration and commercial staff were placed in Talleres Longlife’s facilities, and a small warehouse was rented at Lima St., three blocks away.
Growth made necessary to acquire and/or rent other buildings and warehouses among the years.
In 1996 we moved to our present location at Batovi 2082, and in 2010 we purchased the “El Embrujo” land.
On the first years, most of our staff, and specially our salesmen, came from Trabucati as it closed. That gave us an exceptional initial thrust, given the knowledge of customers and products this people had. The long years Julio Arocena spent working at that company where a big part of the “assets” that led us to acquire the representations and credibility of foreign suppliers.
The invaluable support that many foreign industries and suppliers gave us was a very important part of the development of our company.
We commercialize more than 16.000 products, from about 150 suppliers, most from all around the world, and some of national manufacturing.
Our sales force consists of 25 salesmen, 15 of them cover all the country, and other 10 work in our call center, sales counter, and merchandising team.
We sell to more than 1.600 customers all around Uruguay: hardware stores, paint stores, construction materials stores, locksmiths, general stores, bazaars, and distributors, among others.
Respect of our distribution chain is a main policy of our company.
Our business and logistics takes place in our 2 facilities in Montevideo, occupying 8.000 sq.mts.
At Batovi 2082 (near downtown) are staff offices, administration, call center, customer service, repair & service center, and warehouse. Urgent delivery and customer pick-up orders are prepared here, and also customers coming to our showroom counter.
At Carlos A. Lopez 6925, 20 minutes from downtown office, on a 45.000 m2 property, is our new distribution center "EL EMBRUJO". Here, all shipments are received, and most orders are prepared and delivered.
Facilities for meetings and staff training, dining and rest area are available in both places.
Recently in “EL EMBRUJO”, we inaugurated a very old warehouse (an old wine cellar) recycled into in all-purpose event center, football fields, etc.
Our staff consists of about 120 people, focused in giving advice and providing a fast and efficient service to our customers. This has been the key of our growth over our young 25 years.
In 2008, we obtained the ISO 9001 certification, covering all our procedures. This was the result of the vocation and compromise of our people with quality management and continuous improvement . This process lead us to higher quality and accountability of our work procedures, focused on customer satisfaction, a fast and error-free preparation and delivery of orders, and provided us systematic ways of analyzing errors as an input for every day improvement.
